BILL WOULD GIVE MEDICAL CARE FOR FIREFIGHTERS' PFAS EXPOSURE
JULY 16, 2020
Any firefighter exposed to “forever chemicals” in the foam used to extinguish fires on military bases who becomes ill would get government-paid medical care under a bill introduced in Congress Wednesday.
The ‘‘Protecting Firefighters from PFAS Act” that Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.) will introduce would fill a gap that could leave civilian firefighters without health care, Kildee told Bloomberg Law.
The
bill would guarantee both military and civilian firefighters working on
military bases and their families health care through the Department of
Veterans Affairs if they are exposed to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)
and contract certain illnesses. The presumption of illness could be
extended to include exposure to other PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl
substances) if health agencies determine there’s a connection. FULL STORY: https://news.bloomberglaw.com/...
